RECs, which is short for Renewable Energy Certificates, are becoming more common throughout the US. An REC is given to the owner of a solar panel system owner when their system produces 1 MWh. Utility companies will then purchase these RECs from you. These RECs will be used to show that the company is complying with state mandates on required renewable energy generation.
