How do I get a solar battery backup installed?

A solar battery backup like the Tesla Powerwall 2 and Enphase IQ can only be installed by a certified installer like ADT Solar. This helps prevent damage to your home and ensures you get the most value for your investment. Let a professional handle the tough work for you!

Enphase battery install by ADT Solar

Using the information your Home Energy Consultant collected during your consultation we’ll design your solar panel system, including the addition of your solar battery backup system. Once you’ve reviewed and approved your energy system design, your Solar Project Coordinator will use those details to submit the design to your local building department to get the permits approved.

ADT Solar will work with local officials to get the permits for your system approved, including;

  • Building permit—Some local building departments require homeowners with solar to get a building permit.
  • Utility company—Your utility company has to approve your system for interconnection to the power grid.
  • Homeowners Association—You will need approval from your Homeowners Association (HOA) if you live in a neighborhood where an HOA has authority over the exterior of homes.

The big day has arrived! It’s installation day. Your coordinator will work with you to schedule it on a day that works well for you. If you are also getting a solar panel system installed, it might be scheduled for the same day or a different day than your battery backup installation. You can rest assured that your solar battery backup installation is in good hands, as ADT Solar is an Enphase Certified Platinum Installer and a Tesla Powerwall Certified Installer.

After the solar battery backup battery and panels are installed, our team will conduct a quality inspection to confirm that your system is safe and ready to go. Local authorities from the building department will do their own inspection to verify that the system meets their standard of approval. And your utility provider will make sure that your system is ready for interconnection to the grid.

Once all inspections have been completed and all permits have been approved, the exciting part comes: You get to turn on your solar panel system and battery backup system! This is called getting permission to operate (PTO). Your system is now connected to the grid, and you can begin using it.

What are the incentives or tax credits available for solar battery systems?

The federal solar investment tax credit (ITC) is a tax credit that can be claimed on federal income taxes for 30% of the cost of an eligible solar panel system1. ITC also offers up to a 30% tax credit on the cost of a solar battery backup system installed by 2034. Additional rebates and tax credits vary by your location and utility company.
