Charlotte Solar Incentives

The state of North Carolina has a number of incentives that make the switch to solar power financially beneficial for you. If you’re considering installing solar panels in your Charlotte home, then be sure to take advantage of these amazing incentives. Take advantage of some of these amazing incentives such as a 30% federal tax credit, big savings on your energy bills with net metering, and a rebate on your solar panels.

Solar incentives for Charlotte solar panels include:

If you decide to go solar in Charlotte and use the tax credit, it will be 30% through the end of 2032 then steps down to 26% in 2033 and 22% in 2034. Your solar panel system will need to be installed and operational by the end of 2032 in order to get 30%.

Duke Energy Solar Rebate for Charlotte NC Solar Panels

The federal solar tax credit isn’t the only incentive available however- Duke Energy, the electric utility company for Charlotte, North Carolina, also offers a rebate that customers can use. This particular rebate is available for all solar systems- residential and commercial alike- that are 10kW or less in size. Eligible customers can get $600 in rebates for each 1kW their system can produce. For example, a customer could get a $3,000 rebate for their 5kW solar panel system. The maximum amount a customer can receive is $6,000.

Aside from the program being first-come, first-serve, there are only a few requirements. The customer must:

• Complete and submit their Solar Rebate Application within 90 days of installing their solar panel system.
• Complete and submit any other required documentation.
• Qualify for Net Metering.
• Retain service under the rider for a minimum of ten years from the date of the initial participation.
• Own or lease the PV systems installed on their property.
• The customer may apply to the program prior to the installation of the system, in which case a written guarantee will be provided to reserve the rebate for the owner.
  • The installation must be completed no later than December 31st of the application year for residential customers.
  • For commercial customers, their systems must be installed no later than one year from the date of an executed interconnection agreement by the company.

Please note: Available funds for rebates have run out already in the first half 2021; however, Duke customers can join a waitlist for the rebate.

Property Tax Exemption for NC
